There’s something in the water at the moment, I’m surrounded by babies!! Newborns popping out left, right and centre and by the time I remember I need to get them a present they’re already born. I find beanies make a lovely little gift for a newborn; by giving them a little touch of something different such as a buttoned flower or little animal ears you can make someone a little present that is different and beautiful. These work up so quick I’ve given lots of them recently as last minute presents and they are always well received… not to mention they look adorable on!! These patterns use basic stitches so they provide a  lovely challenge for a beginner crocheter.

Here I’ve made one for a boy and a girl using slightly different colours and different embellishments. I’ve written this pattern in 3 parts: roll up beanie, shell brim beanie and embellishments. The parts for these can be mixed and matched, colours changed and different embellishments added to really personalise it.

This is a pattern for a newborn beanie using cotton dk yarn (I’ve used my favourite baby yarn: King Cole Cottonsoft in ecru, sage and coral) and written in US crochet terms.
